Cannigione is a secure spot to leave your yacht for a tour of some of the interesting Nuraghic remains for which the Arzachena area is renowned, especially the fortified dwelling of Nuraghe Malchittu, with its unusual passage construction; the ‘giants’ tombs’ of Coddu Ecchiu and Li Lolghi and the necropolis of I’Muri (which features Neolithic box tombs with concentric circles and stelae). Other locations worth visiting include the village of Luogosanto, nestling on top of a mountain, and the impressively sited village of Aggius, wedged between huge piles of solid granite. From there, one can continue through the Valle della Luna, an amazing gorge flanked by massive pillars of solid granite. We tied on the inner side of breakwater. Bollards were only available at the southern end; further north boats were tied to construction materials or long lines over the wall to boulders on the outer side of the breakwater. There was no water or electricity. The marina office advised that mooring to breakwater is forbidden, but the wall was full of yachts and no one hassled us. There were no berths available in marina at the time. --[[User:Wayward|Wayward]] [[Image:United_Kingdom_Icon.png]] | ||

Cannigione - Click for larger view |
Cannigione is a small harbour at the head of the Gulf of Arzachena in Sardinia, some ten miles due south of Isola Caprera in the Maddalena group of islands. It offers secure marina berths at a rather more reasonable cost than the glitzy marinas of the Costa Smeralda. It is also a good base for exploring some of the impressive Nuraghic remains around Arzachena.
