Göcek
| |
Göcek has grown from a small agricultural town 15 miles NW of Fethiye into one of Turkey’s premier yachting locations, rivaling Marmaris and the Bodrum Peninsula. This is largely as a result of its natural advantages, being at the top of a deep gulf sheltered by the island of the same name. The town hosts a total of no less than six marinas, Port Göcek, Club Marina, Göcek Village Port, Göcek Exclusive, Skopea Marina, and Göcek Municipal Marina. It is also a place where virtually every conceivable yachting need can be met, including liferaft servicing. Since the completion of a one kilometer tunnel in 2006, the journey from Dalaman International Airport takes only 20 minutes.
Göcek is an excellent base for exploring the wonderful (and popular) cruising area of Skopea Limani a few miles to the south, which is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful yachting destinations in Turkey, and the so-called Twelve Islands of the Gulf of Fethiye. Göcek is not a permanent port of entry. A temporary office may open in season. The closest permanent office is Fethiye.

Weather
Göcek is a relatively sheltered bay, although an unpleasant short chop sets into the bay whenever there are strong winds with anything south in them. This particularly affects Göcek Village Port, Skopea Marina and Göcek Municipal Marina, which are uncomfortable in these conditions. During the winter, when there are occasional southerly gales, most berths in these marinas are effectively untenable.

Passages
Popular passages/routes, timing, etc.
Islands
Twelve in all in the approach to Göcek and even more in the wider Gulf of Fethiye. Popular anchorages are at Göcek Island, Tersane Island and Domuz Island.
Approach to all the marinas is straightforward, although berthing in the three marinas affected by southerly winds (see above) can be challenging. Marina staff are usually in attendance in such conditions.
Communication
Add here VHF channel for coastguard, harbor masters. etc.

Entrance
Gocek is no longer a permanent Port of Entry. A temporary office may re-open in season. Check with the marinas to determine if available. Fethiye is a permanent port of entry.

Anchorages
Göcek Bay
Göcek Bay is between Göcek Village Port and Skopea Marina. This is the most popular anchorage and offers good shelter in most conditions (although strong southerlies send in an unpleasant chop). Anchor in 5.0 – 10.0 metres in mud. The holding is very good.
NW Göcek Bay
It is off Club Marina. This anchorage offers slightly better shelter in southerly winds, but is deep. Anchor in 15.0 – 20.0 metres well to the north of the marina mooring buoys. The bottom is mud and good holding.
Poruklu Bay
Other Anchorages
In addition to these there are numerous sheltered anchorages in the six mile stretch between Göcek and Skopea Limani.
