Beaulieu is sited at the root of the beautiful peninsula of Cap Ferrat, home to the villas of film and pop stars for decades (and football stars for years). A walk along the coast and round the peninsula allows the curious to get a good idea of the style in which the ‘beautiful people’ live. The beaches south of Beaulieu are also some of the finest along the Riveira. Finally, the Villa Kerylos on the southern outskirts of the town is a must for anyone interested in the arts and culture of ancient Greece. Built for the brilliant French polymath and hellenophile Theodore Reinach in the early 1900s, it is a perfect replica of an ancient Greek villa, complete with furniture and ornaments faithfully copied from ancient models. | Beaulieu is sited at the root of the beautiful peninsula of Cap Ferrat, home to the villas of film and pop stars for decades (and football stars for years). Beaulieu sur Mer is situated on the Riviera coast of France, between the harbours of Nice five miles WSW and Menton 11 miles NE. Popularised at the end of the 19th century by wealthy European aristocrats and American millionaires such as the legendary Gordon Bennett, the town lies at the head of a wide bay enclosed by the exclusive promontory of Cap Ferrat to the W and Cap d’Ail to the E. In addition to good rail links and easy access to the international airport of Nice seven miles to the west, Beaulieu also offers a large, 723 berth marina as well as a busy yard capable of lifting vessels of up to 100 tonnes.

Local Weather
The predominant pattern during the summer months is coastal seabreezes, however Beaulieu can be affected whenever there is a strong mistral blowing down the Rhone Valley (although winds here are slightly less strong than in the Rhone delta). Less frequently, the town is affected by the scirocco, a hot southerly wind that blows up from the Sahara and can last for several days, depositing its cargo of dust over everything in sight.

There are no dangers in the approach to Beaulieu, with the exception of a shallow bank with depths of less than 5.0 metres, situated 200 metres NE of the north entrance. The harbour is entered from either end of a long breakwater that protects the harbour from S. The S entrance is for shallower draft yachts (max. 3.0 metres). The N entrance is for deeper draft yachts and is safer in bad weather and at night. It is possible to anchor behind the breakwater for short periods while waiting for berthing instructions.
Berthing options
Yachts in transit (up to 20 metres) can moor in the Porto Vecchio (old port) at the SW corner of the harbour, close to the harbour authority offices. Alternatively, request a berth in the marina (see link below).
Marinas & Yacht Clubs
Anchorages
The nearest anchorage (in settled weather only) is the Baie des Fourmis half a mile SW of the harbour. Not suitable in onshore winds. A better anchorage is the Rade de Villefranche five miles W by sea around Cap Ferrat, which offers good shelter in all but S winds.
Offshore Islands
None.
