The town and marina of Chiavari are situated five miles SE of [[Rapallo]] on the W bank of the Entella River. The much larger marina of Lavagna lies on the E bank half a mile away. The harbour of Chiavari lies in the middle of a plain surrounded on both sides by mountains. The long outer breakwater, oriented E-W, is visible on the approach. Entry to the marina is from due W. Depths shoal quickly on the approach and the entrance itself is prone to silting. Depths can be as little as 2.5 - 3.0 metres in the entrance.
