Isla Cristina is situated on an island (now connected to the mainland) and is worth a visit for its marvelous choice of beaches that are sandy and extensive, stretching 8 km long. There are some excellent windsurfing spots along this stretch of coast. It is also a busy port, famed for its fresh and preserved fish and one of the most important in Andalusia, if not Spain. It has about 21,300 inhabitants.

A red and white marker buoy half a mile off the moles at the river entrance should be left close to starboard on the approach, which should be on a course of 312°. The ends of the moles are marked with red and green markers (lit). Keep to the port side of the buoyed channel to avoid the shallow sandbanks to starboard.
