Nagasaki is the second and last city to have been bpmbed by an atomic weapon. As of 1 March 2017, the city has an estimated population of 425,723 and a population density of 1,000 people per km². The total area is 406.35 km² (156.89 sq mi).

The nearest airport is Nagasaki Airport in the nearby city of Ōmura. The Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) provides rail transportation on the Nagasaki Main Line, whose terminal is at Nagasaki Station. In addition, the Nagasaki Electric Tramway operates five routes in the city.
