Puerto Navarino was the first administrative centre for the Chilean territories in the south, having been established in 1928. The present Alcamar building started life as the governor's residence.

Sources for Weather forecasts:

  • Navarino is an easy day trip from Puerto Williams and well suited as a first stop when bound west.

See also Chile.

The Alcamars in this region all keep watch on VHF 16.

Also see World Cruiser's Nets.

The mooring buoy, shown on most charts, was no longer there in 2018.

Puerto Navarino

During the austral summer of 2007/8 was possible to check out of this port for Ushuaia on four days of the week - Tues/Wed and Sat/Sun. These are the days that the officials drive up from Puerto Williams to clear in and out the Chilean cruise liners 'Mare Australis' and 'Via Australis'. Clearance is normally in the evening... taking your paperwork ashore to the Alcamar earlier in the day speeds the process considerably. Having cleared late in the day it is permitted to depart for Ushuaia at first light the next day. It is not possible to clear into Chile at this port.

Anchor in front of the Alcamar building. Expect to find heavy kelp on your anchor when getting underway from this anchorage.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

  • A short distance east of Navarino, Caleta Santa Rosa is a handy overnight stop.

There are no facilities in this port.

Eating out

  • Taxi to or from Puerto Williams would be possible by arrangement. You would need to get a new Zarpe if you planned to sail with a different crew than what you arrived with.

Pleasant walks along the coast road and also up to the old watch station on the hill.
