The settlement and harbour of Ile Rousse are situated on the N coast of the island of Corsica, 10 miles E of the harbour of Calvi. Founded in 1758 by the Corsican leader Pasquale Paoli during the long campaign to overthrow the Genoese occupation of the island, it consist of a series of breakwaters linking a short archipelago extending N from the coast to form a peninsula offering excellent shelter from the prevailing NW winds. Part of the harbour has been converted into a small marina, the Port de Plaisance Ile Rousse, with 250 berths for yachts up to 25 metres in depths of up to 4.0 metres.

The peninsula of Ile Rousse is easily identified from distance by the prominent Genoese watchtower that sits proudly on its summit. There are no obvious hazards in the approach, although the rocky islets at the end of the peninsula should be given a wide berth if approaching from W. Note that a shoal patch extends off the headland that encloses the S end of the bay in which the harbour sits. The harbour is used by large ferries plying between Corsica and the ports of Nice, Toulon and Marseille and care should be taken on the approach.
Berthing options
Visiting yachts have the option of berthing in the marina, the Port de Plaisance Ile Rousse, or anchoring off in the bay, clear of the numerous moorings. Call the marina on VHF channel 09.

The Port de Plaisance Ile Rousse has berths for 250 yachts in its harbour of up to 12.0 metres length and maximum draft of 4.0 metres.
